UNLAWFUL ARREST AND DETENTION /FORCED ABORTION/TORTURE/PERPETRATED BY PERSONNEL OF ANTI-KIDNAPPING UNIT MINI-KORO PORT HARCOURT AGAINST MRS. JOY GODSTIME IHUNWO.

We are Human Rights Advocacy Group which promotes the right of citizens irrespective of their status.

We have been briefed by Mrs. Joy Godstime Ihunwo who is now referred to as “The Victim”.

Mrs. Joy Godstime Ihunwo informed us and we verily believed her that on Tuesday the 6th day of April 2021 while she was lying down at her residence at No. 28 National Street Mile 3 Diobu, Port Harcourt men of Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Rivers State Police Command in a war film manner and commando style invaded her premises and broke into her room on the guise that someone they were chasing ran into her room.  That when “the Victim” told the men that there was nobody who ran into her room, the three Police men that were already in the Victim’s room, first gave her a slap, kicked her stomach severally, held her hand and dragged her outside the room.

The Victim informed us that three of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit personnel bounced on her while also outside the room, they used their legs to kick her, slapped her and one of them used the butt of the gun to hit her waist despite informing them she is three months pregnant. That all the plea fell on deaf ears as she was bundled into awaiting patrol van of the police unit which conveyed her and her husband as well as other person to the office of Anti-kidnapping Unit at Mini-Okoro. While at the custody of the erring officers, the Victim started noticing severe pains at the lower abdomen.

That at about 8pm in the night that same day the personnel of Anti-kidnapping drove the Victim back to her home when they saw her condition was getting worse. They refused to take her to the hospital as pleaded by the Victim and her husband. That when they got to her house, while she was still screaming because of the pain, the officers ransacked her house. The personnel left her in the house and went away. Hours later the Victim started noticing blood stains and was rushed to the hospital for medical examination where the result of the scan showed she lost the pregnancy. She further went to Rivers State University Teaching Hospital on Sunday 11th 2021 and the test result showed the Victim lost the pregnancy. Attached herein are copies for your perusal.

The victim said after the ransacking of the house by men of Anti-kidnapping unit without a search warrant, her Samsung tablet (two), Techno spark 3, N150,000.00, six yards of George wrapper remained missing till date.

We use this medium to request that you use your good office to order an immediate investigation into the circumstance that led to the unlawful arrest of Mrs. Joy Godstime Ihunwo and forced abortion with a view to ensuring justice on the matter.

We equally demand that Mrs. Joy Godstime Ihunwo be adequately compensated for the loss she suffered and all the officers who took part in the dastardly and ungodly acts be brought to justice.

We have confidence in you sir and believe that our petition will be given the attention it deserves.
