The Civil Rights Council, National Secretariat vehemently condemn the recent upsurge of violence, and arson by certain vested interest.
We have been reliably informed by our members of the wanton destruction of local government secretariats of Eleme, Emohua, Ikwerre and Khana local government areas respectively. It is completely irrational for any group of people in whatever guise to destroy government facilities that was built by tax-payers money.
Therefore, it is incumbent on security agencies not to lose sight of their core responsibility. Hence, there should be no further delay to arrest those involve in such dastardly act.
The state of political unrest orchestrated by political opponents in Rivers State is unnecessary.
Over the weekend, citizens were seen across the 319 wards in the State voted for their representatives in local councils. As we speak the outcome of the election had been declared by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).
Consequently, they have been sworn in by the Executive Governor of Rivers State Similaye Fubara to pilot the affairs of their respective councils.
In this light, as human rights voice, our resolved is to stand for democracy and social justice.
Signed
Barr. Arochukwu, Paul Ogbonna Esq,
