Criticism is now trailing the announcement by Rivers State Government that Prodest Hotel Manager,Eleme Local Government Area Dr.(PhD) Bariledum Azoroh tested positive to Covid-19.
Former spokesperson of All Progressive Congress(APC),Rivers State chapter,Chris Finebone,in his face book post on Monday 25,2020 queried the rationale behind mentioning Dr. Azoroh as a carrier of Covid-19 by the same State Government that has kept the identity of other carriers of Covid-19 secret.
Also an Environmental Activist,Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface who is also the Executive Director of Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre(YEAC) criticized the Rivers State Government for concealing identity of other people who tested positive for Covid-19 and mentioning the name of Prodest Hotel Manger.
Also Chairman of Civil Rights Council,Rivers State chapter, Prince Wiro stated that it is DISCRIMINATORY for Rivers State Government to disclose the identity of Manager of Prodest Hotel,Dr Bariledum Azoroh as a carrier of Covid-19 when the same Government had concealed the identity of persons who tested positive to the pandemic.Mr Wiro urged the State Government to disclose the identity of all persons who have tested positive to Covid-19 in the State in the Interest of FAIRNESS and JUSTICE without further delay.
The Rivers State Government in a statement issued by Commissioner for Information and Communications,Paulinus Nostrum on 24th May 2020,
disclosed that the Manager of Prodest Hotel, Eleme is among the new positive cases.
Pastor Nsirim said “this latest development validates the State Government’s proactive approach towards the fight against COVID-19”
Recall that Prodest Hotel was demolished two weeks ago because the owners violated Executive Order 7 which banned the operation of hotels.
The Commissioner further explained that the COVID-19 Taskforce members from the Local Government who went to enforce the Executive Order were brutalized and dehumanised leading to the death of one of them.
