Greater Women Initiative For Health And Right has condemned the alleged rape of a 23 year old widow by a serving Policeman in Rivers State. The Executive Director of Greater Women Initiative For Health And Right,Miss Josephine Chioma Aseme in an exclusive interview with Revelation Agents described the report as shocking and unfortunate.
Miss Aseme stated that it is disheartening that a Police Officer could contribute to incidents of rape after the directive issued by Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu to Zonal and State commands to ensure the incidents of rape are curtailed.
She regretted that some Police officers carry out this unprofessional act with so much impunity believing that they are untouchable.
The ED of Greater Women Initiative For Health And Right called on the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Joseph Mukan to order a thorough investigation into the report with a view to serving justice to all the parties involved.
On her part,the programme Officer of Greater Women Initiative for Health and Right, Rivers State branch Peace Bai expressed sadness on the development.
She described the alleged rape of the widow by an officer as one too many while adding that the Police Authority should ensure justice is served in the circumstance.
It would be recall that a woman(namewitheld) has accused a Police Officer whom she identified as Peter Ebah purportedly serving at Saakpenwaa Police Division in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State of forcefully abducting and raping her till day break after she was arrested for not wearing a nose mask.
Narrating her ordeal,the woman who is a widow and mother of two disclosed that she was in a bus enroute Eleme from Bori at about 6:30pm. She stated that Police Officer led by the said Peter Ebah asked her to alight from the vehicle around Saakpenwa junction because she was not putting on nose mask while the bus continued the Journey after the driver pleaded with them to let her go to no avail.
According to the Widow,the Police Officer who pretended to be taking her to Police station at night fall later took her to guest house at gunpoint and raped her till day break.
The woman revealed that She cooperated with the Officer to avoid been killed but managed to send out a Save Our Soul message to a close friend while at the guest house located along Kera before her mobile phone went off.
She said He later released her in the morning told her to give him her account number that he will transfer 2000 to her .
The woman disclosed that she played along and gave him the account number for fear of unknown and also to provide evidence against him.
As at Press time the matter has been reported to Human Rights Department at State Police headquarters, Rivers State Police command.
