The Chairman
Nigerians in Diaspora Commission,
Second Floor, Annex 3 Phase 1 Federal Secretariat CBD,
Abuja FCT
Dear Sir,
A QUICK CALL OF INTERVENTION IN THE ABUSE OF HUMAN RIGHT OF MR.
AKINYEMI SUNDAY OLATUNJI AND HIS FAMILY BY THE REPUBLIC OF
AZERBAIJAN IMMIGRATION OFFICERS
We are non-sectarian, non-governmental and non-profit professional organization
mixed up of different professions but mostly lawyers with the aims and objectives of
rendering legal services to citizens of human right violation. We write on behalf of Mr.
Akinyemi Sunday Olatunji and his family, who are noble citizens of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria, to seek for a quick intervention by the Commission regarding the
pathetic situation of Mr.Akinyemi Sunday Olatunji and his family who has been led to
waste in the custody of the Republic of Azerbaijan without a fair trial.
We have been informed that Mr. Akinyemi Sunday Olatunji was in the Republic of
Azerbaijan to further his studies and in order to be with his family, he invited his wife and 13 years old child, after which they were granted a visa and then relocated the Republic of Azerbaijan to be with him (Mr. Akinyemi Sunday Olatunji). On the 13th day of September 2024, Mr.Akinyemi Sunday Olatunji received a call from the immigration service of the Republic of Azerbaijan to report to the office; in view of the fact that he was renewing his Annual Temporary Resident Permit/Card for himself and that of his wife and 13 year old daughter, without hesitation or suspicion of a foul play as it was a norm for him to renew their Annual Temporary Resident Permit/Card anytime the need arises adhered and headed to the immigration office.
On reaching the immigration office, the officers’ of the immigration of the Republic of Azerbaijan took his passport, as he also at that time got the information that his wife and child had already been called from British High School, where she legally works as an English teacher as well as his daughter being a student there to report to the immigration service prior to his, his wife and 13 year old daughter were already detained roughly an hour before he was also called to report and they never returned their passports till date, neither have they returned their mobile phones, nor allowed them access to it to establish contact with family and friends, even though it is the regulation in the detention facility to be given mobile phones daily but at a given time interval.
The Immigration service of the Republic of Azerbaijan has refused to inform Mr.Akinyemi Sunday Olatunji and his family of their offence.
It is without doubt that some of the function of the commission is to reach out to Nigerian community abroad through their various groups, organizations and professional bodies, to foster and facilitate diaspora engagement, initiate migrant Protection and reintegration in Nigeria.
We respectfully urge that the commission reach out and rescue Mr. Akinyemi Sunday Olatunji and his family from the brutality and abuse of human right by the officers of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s immigration service and officers.
We really look forward to hearing from you in respect of this matter, as we extend our warmest regards.
Thank you.
Yours Faithfully,
For: LEGAL CARE ADVOCACY FOUNDATION
