The RELIEF INTERNATIONAL AFRICA and Relief Ambassadors Assembly strongly condemns the kidnapping of Ambassador Chukwudi Ogbonna, who is contesting for the House of Assembly in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government in Rivers State, Nigeria.
Ambassador Ogbonna was abducted while he was on his way to a political meeting ahead of the upcoming 18th March General Elections in Rivers State. He was abducted along Rumuigbo road in Obio Akpor LGA This heinous act is not only a violation of Ambassador Ogbonna’s human rights, but it is also an attack on democracy and the principles of free and fair elections.
Relief International Ambassadors Assembly calls on the Rivers State government, Nigerian government and the security agencies to immediately launch a thorough investigation into the kidnapping of Ambassador Ogbonna and to ensure his safe return to his family and campaign team.
We also urge all political parties, their candidates all political actors and stakeholders to uphold the principles of non-violence and to respect the fundamental rights of all citizens, including the right to participate in political processes without fear of violence or intimidation.
Finally, we express our solidarity with Ambassador Ogbonna’s family, his campaign team, and the people of Rivers State during this difficult time even as we demand for his unconditional release immediately.
