…Says The Command Will Not Shield Its Officer If Found Culpable
An officer, Inspector Peter Ibah who was accused by a young Widow of raping her after she was arrested for not wearing facemask last Tuesday was interrogated at the headquarters of Rivers State Police command on Thursday alongside three other of his colleagues.
Addressing newsmen, the spokesperson of Rivers State Police command, Superintendent of Police (SP) Nnamdi Omoni said the men are serving at MOPOL 56 at Saakpenwaa not Saakpenwaa Police Station as insinuated.
SP Omoni disclosed that the Commissioner of Police CP Joseph Mukan has ordered that the case file be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation after which the outcome of the investigation will be made public.
The Police spokesperson appealed to members of the Public to remain calm as justice will not only be served in the matter but manifestly done in the matter.
Our correspondent reports that the woman who accused the officer of rape and a relative was also present.
The woman had earlier told newsmen that the officer who arrested her for not wearing nose mask on her way to Eleme from Bori diverted her to a guest house where one of the officer allegedly raped her till day break instead of taking her to Police Station .
Meanwhile A Human Rights Advocate, Prince Wiro has commended the Police Command in the State for quickly identifying the officers that had an encounter with the widow and inviting them for questioning. Mr. Wiro called on the Police to ensure Justice is served to all parties in the matter.
