The President General of Agbakor Ikwerre Prof. Emenike Wami has louded the Rivers State Governor, Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike for the proactive measures he took in containing the spread of corona virus in the state, the president general of Ogbakor Ikwerre noted this while playing host to members Iwhuruonha Journalist Forum (IJF), who paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Rivers State University Port Harcourt this week.
Prof. Wami said “you will agree with me that covid-19 took the world by surprise and by storm. And in Nigeria, Governor Wike was one of the governors that took the necessary steps to contain the spread of the dreaded virus in his state, He was one of the governors who took decisive steps, I commend him in the fight against covid-19, and thank God for the proactive steps he took which had made it possible for us to have recorded low infection rate”
He further called on government, Ikwerre sons and daughters as well as friends of the Ikwerre nationality to join hands in lifting the face of Obiri Ikwerre hall which was defaced as a result of the flyover construction by the Obiri Ikwerre hall.
He noted that appeals has been made to stakeholders, to redeem the image of Obiri Ikwerre hall, which he said is not only a strategic hall but a structure that should also command respect in Ikwerre land. He therefore used this medium to call on those of good will especially Ikwerre sons and daughters to live up to expectation in making sure that, that site is a befitting site.
Furthermore, he applauded members of IJF, for thinking it wise to set up the organization (Iwheruona Journalist Forum) noting that journalist are image makers.
He admonished members of IJF to use their good positions in projecting the good image of Ikwerre land and its people, according to him, ” I encourage you to keep the flag flying, know your aims and objectives. The idea that you must project Ikwerre to the world, let them know that we are very hospitable people, very accommodating in every sense of it, and will ever make wonderful contributions towards the wellbeing of this nation. So Ikwerre must always stand out where ever we are”
“So stories about Ikwerre should be taken seriously and any that concerns us should be adequately accommodated, adequately evaluated and people should avoid rushing into conclusions that may not be true, they should investigate, journalists are there to unearth everything, tell the truth to the world”
Also, the President of Ikwerre Development Association, Chief Dr. Esezi Obilarukani, who was also visited by members of IJF at his office in Rivers state university same day, admonished members of IJF as well as journalists to always be factual in their report, and desist from reporting stories that are not properly investigated in order not to tarnish peoples image.
He commended members of the IJF, he further advice them to continue in their good work as they will duly receive the benefits of their good works.
Continuing, he said, the Ikwerre people are very hospitable, and their land is a nice place and they are very friendly people.
Another great stakeholder who received members of the IJF, at his residence on a courtesy visit was Prof. Tasie, former Vice Chancellor University of Jos in Plateau State, Pro Chancellor Rivers State university and former head of Rivers State Scholarship Board.
While receiving members of IJF at his GRA residence, Prof. Tasie advised them to be thorough with their reports while reporting, so as to protect their integrity as well the integrity of others. He also condemned totally the allegation that Ikwerreance did not take part in the establishment of Rivers State, he condemned the statement and advised proper verification, he stated that late chief Dappa Biriye attested to that when he was alive and cautioned rumour mongers to properly investigate their topics of discussion before putting them out in public.
He further advised members of the IJF to do well in righting most of the alleged allegations against Ikwerre nationality.
Irked by an allegation that was made against his office in 2010, as the Pro chancellor of Rivers State University, he said it will be good if his accusers published their findings after their investigation to also let the world know the truth of their findings, further stating that, ” there is no self respecting person that will say he is happy to have such allegation against him”
“To the extend that in the book Odili, former governor of Rivers State wrote ” History and Conscience” if you look at page 221, it refers to me as man of integrity”
Earlier, the chairman IJF, Elder Mike Iwhezor in his speech thanked IJF hosts (Ogbakor Ikwerre President General, Prof. Emenike Wami, Chairman Ikwerre Development Association, Chief Dr. Esezi Obilarukani and Prof. Tasie) for their hospitality while during IJF’s courtesy visit to them. He appreciated their fatherly advice and promised that members of IJF will ensure that Ikwerre nationality will be projected for good. He also solicited for synergy with parent body which is Ogbakor Ikwerre to carry on with own values and that the values and information about Ikwerre Kingdom is projected in good light.
