Why Peace Accord Signed By “Repentant Cultists” In Some Communities In Rivers State May Collapse-Opinion

WHY THE PEACE ACCORD SIGNED BY “REPENTANT CULTISTS” IN SOME COMMUNITIES IN RIVERS MAY COLLAPSE
The peace accord signed by some “repentant cultists” in some communities like Ibaa,Obelle,Ubima in recent times may not stand the test of time due to some obvious reasons.
The four major street/communities cult groups in Rivers state Greenlanders, Icelanders,Deywell and Deygbam have leadership Organogram.
Especially Greenlanders and Icelanders are believed to have state executives,Local Government executives and Community executive.
They report in that manner.
However,Deywell and Deygbam do not have State executive but have local Government executive and communities/unit executive.
So any peace agreement signed at the community level without the involvement of the state and local Government executives is bound to fail because those community executives takes directives from the local government and state executives. For instance Ndele cultists have not signed peace agreement. So if there is a cult war in Ndele and a particular cult group is overwhelmed by its rival,there is no way the executives of the overwhelmed cult group in the LGA will order other members of the cult groups in other communities in that LGA to assist their members in that community ,that they will not obey.
That is why the menace of cultism has remained unabated because the security agencies most times arrest only the foot soldiers with out bothering to find out who are the state and local Government executives.
If our Government wish to sincerely tackle armed robbery,Kidnapping, bunkering it must tackle the issue of cultism .From investigation,in Rivers state many paraded suspected Kidnappers and armed robbers are cultists unlike other states where they have professional kidnappers and armed robbers. Aside political patronage,bunkering and drug peddling ,two major source of income to cultists in the state are kidnapping and armed robbery.That is to say cultism is directly proportional to Kidnapping, armed robbery.
Government should also make policy with intention to discourage patronage from politicians, companies,Community leadership to these cult groups.
Government should intensify anti-cultism campaign in all primary and secondary schools to counter the campaign of “catch them young” by cultists who are using our schools as breeding ground.
Government must make policy to discourage chieftaincy,CDC,Youth tussle in our communities.
