The Commissioner of Police Bayelsa State Command CP Alonyenu Farancis Idu has ordered a discreet investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of a 14years old girl in a hotel in Yenagoa.
Spokesperson for the Bayelsa Police Command Assistant Superintendent of Police(ASP) Musa Mohammed while reacting to the incident in a statement on Thursday 4,April,2024 said operatives of the Command acting on credible intelligence, apprehended a suspect in connection with the suspected murder of one Miss Shallon Ebitare a 14year old, resident of Akaibiri Community in Yenagoa LGA.
ASP Mohammed said the suspect one Lucky (surname withheld) male aged 17year, who was arrested by police operatives attached to Ekeki Divisional Police Headquarters, upon interrogation said he took the deceased to a Hotel, where he intended to have carnal knowledge with her.
The Police spokesperson disclosed that the suspect claimed the deceased went to the bathroom to take her bath but fell and she sustained injuries.
He explained that sequel to this, he invited the Hotel Manager who assisted in taking the deceased to FMC, Yenagoa where the teenage girl was confirmed dead by a Medical Doctor on duty.
ASP Mohammed revealed that the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department(SCID), Yenagoa where he is being detained as investigation continues with a view to ascertain the cause of death.
Meanwhile the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command has urged the general public to remain calm, vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or call the command control emergency numbers.
